Welcome to the CarbonShack Library!

What can we collectively do to make the greatest impact in reducing climate-related emissions? The answer is simple. Focus on the sector that consumes the most energy: our buildings.

Buildings consume 40% of energy in the United States, which is greater than our transportation and industrial sector. While many of us know that buildings can be reimagined to embody responsible low carbon living, few of us know how or where to start looking in order to find the solutions.

The problem doesn’t lie in a lack of solutions. We could all upgrade our houses tomorrow, achieving such high performance that would not only reduce our residential energy footprint but essentially eliminate it altogether.

There is also no shortage of knowledge or resources. Companies, governments, non-profits, and labs have been working since the ’70s, addressing the problem and creating resources that can enable all of us to redesign and rebuild our houses.

The issue stems from disorganization. Currently, no one is talking to each other. From landscape architects to electricians, the field of green building is highly diverse and there remains no tool to successful unify the field and streamline the key solutions that are currently floating in the ether.

This issue has inspired us to create a place that will house all information related to green building. Our Library features our own articles as well as aggregated resources from across the internet ranging from basic principles for you to get your footing, to advanced building plans for you to follow through with decisions. This page encompasses a wide range of topics such as practical building guides, economic analyses, ecological thought pieces, and current news.

Whether you are a consumer, architect, ecologist, or data nerd, we have you covered. The evolving and scattered world of green building has been distilled and is now in your hand.
